REGULATING THE NISAVA RIVERBED

 

Regulating Nisava riverbed stretching from the railway bridge to the bridge in the settlement of Medosevac will provide new quay in the city but also the protection from floods. The investment is worth 320 million dinars, and implementation is expected in the next 16 months Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic with his associates visited the works together with the representatives of the two city municipalities – Palilula and Crveni Krst, that are separated by Nisava River. The city officials could see the progress of this project which is realized by PE Srbijavode which will provide the safety of the citizens of Nis from big floods and also another quay for strolling and spending leisure time. The Nisava River on this section will be fully tamed according to experts since a very complex and extensive regulation of the riverbed in the length of two kilometers has been done. It will prevent any river over flooding, even in the so-called millennial floods.




OPEN HOUSE AT NIS CITY HALL

 

Nis City Hall will be Open House every Monday evening for the citizens of Nis who will have the chance to talk directly to the Mayor and Nis City Council Members and present to them their problems.

“The problems that citizens presented are mainly social in nature, and we will do everything in our power to help these people in accordance with the financial capabilities of the city,” the Mayor said, adding that “what is most important is that in the future, after the citizen have submitted an appeal or request, the respective departmental councilors will have all the necessary documentation, which means that these talks will not be just formal. Efforts will be made to find a solution and inform the citizen about the status of her or his request, the modalities for solution and if necessary submit additional documentation. “




ANNIVERSARY OF THE AUSTRO-HUNGARIAN DECLARATION OF WAR TO SERBIA IN 1914 MARKED

 

On this day, 102 years ago, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. This historic telegram was handed to the then Government of the Kingdom of Serbia, which was located in the building of today’s University of Nis. On this occasion, Nis City Council Member Svetozar Aleksov, the President of the City Municipality Crveni Krst Miroslav Milutinović and the representative of the Association for Preserving Tradition of Liberation Wars in Serbia laid flower wreaths at the memorial plaque, which, at the centenary of this historic event, was placed on the building of the University.




RECEPTION FOR MEDAL WINNERS AT EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY GAMES

 

The reception was organized at Nis City Hall for athletes from Nis who won medals at the European University Games in Croatia. On this occasion Nis Mayor Darko Bulatovic thanked the athletes for a worthy representation of the city and the excellent results that have been achieved in a very strong competition. They won the total of eight medals – five gold medals, two bronze and one silver, and the medals were won in handball, volleyball, swimming and judo.

Handball players from Nis won the gold medal. The bronze medals were won by the volleyball team, while swimmer Nemanja Tadic won four gold medals and one silver medal. David Tekic won bronze medal in judo. As a token of gratitude the City of Nis gave to the  athletes the gold coin with the image of the Emperor Constantine, and the President of the University Sports Federation in Nis Nebojsa Jovanovic gave to Mayor Bulatovic official team uniform.




NEW CONTROL TOWER ON NIS AIRPORT SOON

 

The working meeting was held with the Air Traffic Control of Serbia and Montenegro SMATSA at the Nis Airport on the occasion of the construction of the airport complex.
SMATSA presented the preliminary design of the tower based on which the urban project would be prepared for the construction of the Tower at the specified location of 2ha of land within Nis

Airport Complex. The meeting was attended by representatives of SMATSA, headed by the the director of air traffic Mr. Nenad Sakic, while the Nis City Delegation was led by Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic.

“The city will fulfill its obligations regarding the settlement of property relations and plans related to the construction of the tower, and respective departments will finish the work in about 40 days,” said Mayor Bulatovic. Nis Airport Director Vladica Djurdjanovic said by building the new tower Nis Airport will be technically equipped to receive planes that, due to weather conditions, cannot land in Belgrade. “The value of works is about 4 million euros, and the funds will be allocated for this purpose by SMATSA. The planned deadline for completion is two years, “said Djurdjanović.

As a reminder, in January 2016 at the premises of the airport was realized a meeting at which he presented the adopted the Plan of detailed regulation for the Nis Airport Complex was presented in January 2016 with future tower location defining the plans and requirements for the tower construction.




NEW TRAFFIC LIGHTS FOR BETTER TRAFFIC SAFETY

 

By setting a new traffic lights on the corner of streets Bulevar Medijana and Knjazevacka the modernization of traffic signals in the city began, which would include almost all the important intersections and checkpoints near schools. The replacement of old lanterns, that have, until now, operated via ordinary interior lighting with new LED lighting, provides better visibility of traffic signals but also savings in electricity consumption.

“So far, the operation of traffic lights at this crossroads in terms of electricity consumption cost 15 thousand dinars per month, and now, with the new LED lighting, this amount will be significantly reduced to 2 thousand dinars per month,” said the Mayor Darko Bulatovic. This is very important not only for consumption but also for better security of the traffic participants, as now the visibility of traffic lights during the day is much better.

Funding for the replacement of the traffic lights was provided by the Council for Traffic Safety in the amount of 8 million dinars, while the total value of all the works on modernization of traffic signals is around 15 million dinars.




SUPPORT FOR NIS TOP ATHLETE

 

Upon the recommendation of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Vanja Udovicic, and at the initiative of the City of Nis and Nis Sports Association, Sports Association of Serbia has provided funding to compensate for absence from work for Nenad Filipovic, an athlete from Nis Club Nis Marathon.

Nenad Filipovic qualified for the Olympics in Rio in the discipline of fast walking. Olympic Committee of Serbia fully funded the preparation of all the athletes who ahd qualified; however, Nenad, who works in a private company, had to take unpaid leave in order to prepare for the Olympics so his family remained without basic livelihood during the period of preparation. The respective Minister acted upon the initiative that came from Nis, so the competent institutions will refund the amount that Filipovic would have earned you if he did not have to take the unpaid leave.

“This is really a nice gesture from the Minister of Sports and the new city authorities in Nis. Surely it we will represent an incentive for even greater work. This is my third Olympics and the principle of “third time lucky charm” I expect a good result, but I also expect that, after the Olympics, with the help of people from the city management, I would be able to find the employment in my profession” said Filipovic, who is at his final preparations on Vlasina Lake.

City of Nis and Nis Sports Association are pleased to have been able to help the athlete who has, for years, been representing the City of Nis in the best possible way, convinced that it will be the same at the Olympic Games in Rio.




THE LARGEST INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT TO DATE IN THE FIELD OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION IN SERBIA WILL BE BUILT IN NIS

 

The City of Nis was visited by the representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, Mrs. Stana Bozovic, the European Union Delegation in Serbia, Richard Masa, as well as representatives of the Office for European Integration of the Republic of Serbia. The occasion for the visit of the city of Nis was the presentation of a feasibility study for the project of waste collection and treatment of waste water in this city. The study should make it possible for Nis to enter the program of development assistance to pre-accession funds of the EU, IPA 2017, and obtain grant for the construction of waste water treatment and sewerage network.

This kind of support from the pre-accession funds of the European Union, would represent THE LARGEST INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT in the field of environmental protection, which is financed from the EU pre-accession funds of the European Union.

“Through the cooperation of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the City of Nis, with the support of the European Union, the largest infrastructure project in the field of environmental protection in the pre-accession period will be implemented here. The value of the plant for waste water, from the construction and reconstruction of sewerage network, far exceeds what we have so far financed, and the funds will be provided to the Government of the Republic of Serbia from EU pre-accession funds, “said State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Mrs. Stana Bozovic, and congratulated the new Mayor of Nis, Mr. Bulatovic, on his efforts to venture into such a valuable infrastructure project, which will ensure clean rivers, the sustainability of water resources, a healthy environment and health of citizens.

The project of collection and treatment of wastewater for the City of Nis includes construction of a new collector, restoration of existing, afterwards, the city plant for waste water treatment, as well as additional treatment of sludge. Complete project and technical documentation for the plant and sewage will be funded from the new support programs of the Swedish International Development Agency to the environmental sector in Serbia, PEID, “Preparation and Development Investments in Environment ”, which starts on  July 25th , 2016 and is worth almost 3 million EUR.




HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT

 

Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM) and the Council of Europe in the framework of the project “Human Resource Management in Local Government” organized the seminar “Towards the Implementation of the Law on Employees of autonomous provinces and local self-government” in order to get acquainted with the new law and planned activities within the project. At the seminar organized in Nis mayors from the region and their associates could learn firsthand about the implementation of the Law on employment in the autonomous provinces and local government units. The guests were welcomed by the President of the SCTM Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic, as well as the Secretary General of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities Djordje Stanicic. The seminar was also attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government and a delegation of Council of Europe Office in Belgrade.




RECEPTION FOR THE PARTICIPANTS OF STUDENTS’FOLKLORE FESTIVAL

 

The International Students’ Folklore Festival is organized for the ninth time in Nis Nis Student Cultural Center in Nis. The reception was organized at Nis City Hall for the participants of the Festival and on this occasion the Nis City Deputy Mayor Milos Bandjur welcomed all participants and stressed the importance of preserving tradition through the fostering of folk dances, pointing out that times of hardships songs and dances preserved and consolidated the spiritual identity of our nation. The reception was attended by guests from Costa Rica, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovenia and members of Serbian folklore ensembles from Kosovo and Metohija. Nis City Deputy Mayor presented the statue of Constantine to all the ensembles as a small memorabilia of their time spent in Nis.
