THE DAY OF VICTORY OVER FASCISM MARKED IN NIS

May 9th

By laying wreaths at the Monument to the Liberators of Nis the Victory Day over Fascism in the Second World War was celebrated in Nis.

 

Wreaths were laid by the delegations of the City of Nis, the Serbian Armed Forces, Police, Nisava Administrative District, Russian-Serbian Humanitarian Center and many others. “This is a great day”, as it was emphasized by the representatives of the City of Nis, “a day when we honor the ancestors who have given their lives for our freedom. Serbian nation had the important role in the victory over fascism with thousands of fighters who gave their lives for freedom and respect for human dignity. The Republic of Serbia now firmly stands for the principles of peaceful cooperation and advocates for tolerance and cooperation with other Balkan countries, but it also contributes to the overall efforts to achieve stability in the region.”

 

As part of celebrating the Day of Victory over Fascism, wreaths were laid at the monument dedicated to fallen Russian soldiers.




100.000TH PASSENGER AT NIS AIRPORT

May 8th

Nis citizen Ninoslav Milenkovic landed this morning, as 100 000th passenger, at the Nis Airport Constantine the Great. He was greeted at the airport by the City of Nis delegation led by Mayor Darko Bulatovic and the director of Nis Airport Vladica Djurdjanovic. “This is an important day for Nis and for the development of Nis airport, because, after just four months, Nis Airport has 100 000 passengers, which is a record compared to last year when 100 000th passenger landed at the end of 2016,” as Mayor Bulatovi said. He pointed out that the reconstruction of the airport building is nearing its completion. “If everything goes according to plan, next year we are expecting a number of innovations at the Constantine the Great Airport. We, together with the Government of the Republic of Serbia, have showed that we are very keen on developing air traffic in this part of Serbia. This much interest of passengers, both from Nis, and from the region, confirms that there are good prospects in the future”, added Mayor Bulatovic. Ninoslav Milenkovic, who is also flew from Dortmund, said that he was a regular traveler from Nis airport because his family lived in Germany and he flew every week. He stressed that the establishment of regular line between Nis and this German city meant a lot because he could see his family more often.




SOCIAL CARE SERVICES FAIR

May 4th

State Secretary at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs Vladimir Ilic opened Fair of Social Care Services in Nis. The aim of the fair is to point out how many people and organizations are involved in the process which is very important for each local community, and that is the proper functioning of the system of social care that cannot be viewed only as providing basic services to persons who are without basic living conditions.

 

The opening ceremony was attended by the Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic. Rade Rajkovic, the President of Nis City Assembly addressed the audience on this occasion. City of Nis, within its jurisdictions, is trying to devote great attention to the social care system, and allocate significant funds from the budget for social care, and this is one of the indicators that for this city  the solidarity and the support to those who are in need is a very important element in functioning of the local community.

 

The fair will present social welfare institutions that accommodate a large number of users as well as the NGOs which are providing social services to different user groups (children, youth, victims of violence, victims of trafficking, the elderly, etc.).




RECEPTION FOR THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE FIRST EASTER FOLKLORE FESTIVAL

With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Teodosije of Raska and Prizren the first Easter festival of church folk ensembles was held in Nis. On this occasion the reception was organized at Nis City Hall for the participants of the festival hosted by the Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic. The participants of the festival performed a short programme. The idea is for Easter folk festival to become traditional event that will gather church ensembles every spring according to the festival organizer Miljko Petrovic.
During the two days of the festival in St. Sava Home Nis audience had the chance to see the performance of the following folklore groups: Serbian Charity and Educational Group “St. Basil the Great” from Bratunac (Republika Srpska); Serbian Cultural Art Group “Holy Despot Stefan Lazarevic” from Srebrenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina); Church Cultural and Artistic Group ” Saint Nicholas – Varjas” from Timisoara (Romania); Cultural and Artistic Group “Dance of Djurdjevdan” from Podgorica (Montenegro) and the Host Church Dance Ensemble “Branko” from Nis.




EASTER GREETING FROM NIS CITY MAYOR DARKO BULATOVIC

Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic extended his greetings on the occasion of the Christian Holiday – Easter to all the clergy and all citizens of Nis that are celebrating this holiday according to the Julian and Gregorian calendar.

“I wish for you to celebrate this holiday in peace, full of joy and love and harmony among the people, hope and faith in a better and safer future. May this holiday bring joy and spiritual guidance to all of us to preserve the real value that will help us to build a more just society, based on the ideas of democracy, freedom, human rights and development. “




EASTER CONCERT AT ARMY HALL

April13th

The reception was organized at Nis City Hall for the great Serbian composer Vojkan Borisavljevic who, together with well-known musicians from Nis, would perform at the concert in Nis on the occasion of Easter Holidays. During his rich professional career Mr. Borisavljevic wrote the most beautiful love melodies and themes from the famous series and movies.
“This concert is the gift to the citizens of Nis on the occasion of the most joyous Christian Holiday and the opportunity to see in one place the giants of Serbian music scene and listen to popular tunes from domestic films that were composed by maestro Borisavljevic,” as Nis City Deputy Mayor said at the reception.




MEETING BETWEEN NIS CITY MAYOR AND TURKISH AMBASSADOR

April 11th

Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic met with His Excellency, the Ambassador of Turkey in Serbia Mr. Tanju Bilgiç on the occasion of his first official visit to our city. At the meeting held at Nis City Hall the two officials discussed the modalities of future cooperation between the City of Nis and the Turkish Embassy in Serbia in the fields of economy, and culture.

The Ambassador said that the large number of Turkish investors was interested in investing in Serbia and that Nis was particularly interesting because of its geographical position, but also because of the qualified skilled workforce.

The mayor expressed his hopes that, in the future, the passenger flight on the route Nis-Istanbul would be established and that it was a common task that City and Embassy of Turkey should be implementing.

Later on the Ambassador and the Mayor were joined by students from Nis primary and secondary schools who were going to participate at the children’s music festival “Serbia in the Rhythm of Europe”. The pupils from Nis will compete by performing songs and dances from Turkey. The festival will be held in late June in Sombor, and if they win, their reward will be free travel to Turkey. The team from Nis consists of 10 dancers and 2 singers.

The Ambassador and the Mayor greeted the children, and the Ambassador said that one of the reasons why he came to Nis that day was to meet the children who would compete in the Festival representing Turkey. The Embassy of Turkey has been supporting this Festival for past 8 years. The aim of the Festival is to recognize and promote young talents in accordance with the European Charter on the Participation of Young People in municipal and regional level.




EXHIBITION FROM NAÏVE PAINTING FROM KOVACICA IN NIS

April 11th

Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic opened the exhibition entitled The Caravan of Kovacica Naïve Painting at Nis Officers’ Mess Building. The exhibition includes more than 50 works of painters of naive art and for the first time, in one place, it gathered all the members of the Gallery of Naive Art of Kovacica, which is, on the world cultural map, known as the center of naïve painting. The opening of the exhibition was attended by the Nis City Council Member Mrs. Jelena Mitrovski as well as the President of Kovacica Municipality Mr. Milan Garasevic, who was the creator of the whole idea of the caravan of naïve paintings. The characteristics of Naive Art from Kovacica are strong colors. Each of the painters from Kovacica brings something special to this style of painting; each of them has its own distinctive style. The motives of these artists are taken from living and working in rural areas.




AMBASSADOR OF NORWAY VISITED NIS

April 3rd

Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic met with H.E. Ambassador of Norway Mr. Arne Sanes Bjornstad, who led the Nordic Business Alliance delegation in their visit to Nis. The cooperation with companies in Norway, Sweden and Finland, and attracting investors from these countries, as well as facilitating the procedures for their business operation in Nis were the topics of the meeting between the city management and the representatives of Nordic Business Alliance. Companies from Norway, Sweden and Finland, whose representatives visited Niš, can count on the help of the city government and national institutions if they decide to invest in this part of Serbia, as the Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatović said.

“Today we talked about the possibility of opening the production capacity and the availability of educated and highly skilled workforce, as well as educational institutions in the city. This was an opportunity to see why Nis is excellent destination that we would recommend to any company to start their business operations here” as Ambassador Bjonrnstad said.

The goal of Nordic Business Alliance in Serbia is to promote and strengthen the network and cooperation between Nordic companies and Serbia and to contribute to the development of business relations and activities (between the Nordic countries and Serbia).




NEW SEWAGE IN VILLAGE OF DONJE MEDJUROVO AFTER 8 YEARS

April 1st

Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic and the President of the Nis City Municipality Palilula Aleksandar Zdrale Plilula visited the village of Donje Međurovo where, eight years ago, the villagers were promised that they would get new sewage network. This big problem will finally get its solution. During the visit it was announced that this phase of work would be completed by the end of April. Mayor Bulatovic said that this phase included the construction of 2,2 km of the missing secondary network. The value of these works is 13.6 million dinars. Upon the completion of the construction works the Public Utility Company Naissus will take over with the maintenance of the system. After that the connecting of all village households the sewage system would be done.
