Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic together with his associates has visited the sport courts in the trenches of the Nis Fortres which are being reconstructed. The goal of the City of Nis is to revitalize the abandoned and decript sport courts which used to be used for recreation for more than a decade. The first phase includes basketball courts with stands and dressing rooms, the second phase includes the volleyball courts, while the third includes football field and athletic track. The realization of this project would provide new terrains for recreation, training and competitive activities, for volleyball, handball, basketball, gymnastics and athletics. The value of the works is about 50 million dinars, funded from the city budget, and partly by donations.

For the sixth year consecutive, the Traffic Safety Agency has been conducting a campaign aimed at improving the safety of children in traffic. The representatives of the Traffic Safety Agency organized a meeting with local council members and on that occasion the cooperation agreement was signed with the High Technical School of Vocational Studies from Nis.

Bulgarian delegation led by Dmitar Glavchev, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Bulgaria, visited the Nis where the meeting was held with the Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic. During the meeting improving cooperation between the City of Nis and neighboring Republic of Bulgaria was discussed. During the discussion the particular emphasis was given to the rapid growth in tourism, having in mind the fact that the number of Bulgarian tourists was constantly increasing.

At the press conference held today at Nis City Hall Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic and the management of Nis Airport Constantine the Great announced the new destination to fly to from Nis Airport – Stockholm, Sweden starting from October 31^st with a twice weekly service starting in October, as part of our Niswinter 2017 schedule with 5 routes in total.  The biggest low-cost airline Ryanair will introduce another flight from Nis to Stockholm (Skavsta Airport) from October 31^st during the winter flight schedule. Ryanair celebrated its new Nis route to Stockholm by releasing seats from Nis to Stockholm Skavsta for sale from just €19.99 for travel in November. At this moment, the number of passengers in 2017 is already around 270,000, so it is realistic to expect that in December, a record number of passengers, i.e. 300 000 passengers would be reached.  Thanks to the engagement of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the City of Nis the ALS system for ground guidance of the aircraft will be installed on the runway and the construction of new tour will begin next year. Starting from next year Nis Airport will be a self-sustaining company and city subsidies will be reduced to a minimum.

“I am staying in Serbia!” – This is the message from the young people from Nis who participated in today’s conference held at Officers’ Mess Building in Nis.  The conference was organized by the City of Nis, through the Office for Youth, which is an integral part of the Mayor’s Office. Officers’ Mess Building was small to welcome all interested young people from Nis schools, as well as guests from several cities of Serbia. The participants were welcomed by Nis City Council Member for Youth and Sports Branislav Kacar while the introductory speech was delivered by the President of Nis City Council Rade Rajkovic. The goal of this conference is sending the clear message from the young people of Nis to their peers from Serbia that they want to stay here.

October 24^th

Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic and Nis City Council Member Branislav Kacar met today with the the delegation of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia led by the president Zoran Gajic and accompanied by the vice president Ivan Miljkovic, the president of Nisava District Valleyball Federation Ljubodrag Brkic. On this occasion Mayor Bulatovic said that Nis was the city of sports and the city leaders were trying to provide maximum support to the development of sport. He also stressed that the volleyball was very popular sport in Nis and that the city management would continue to work on the popularization of this sport and securing the best possible conditions for achieving top results. The president of the Volleyball Federation of Serbia thanked the city management for the readiness to continue supporting volleyball in the city. He said he was particularly impressed by how much the city leaders were conscious of the fact that the development of the volleyball in this part of Serbia had great potentials and promised that they would help as the federation.

Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic and and UNICEF Representative in Serbia, Michel Saint-Lot, officially opened a photo exhibition – UNICEF: 70 Years in Serbia at the central city square in Nis. The photo exhibition depicts seven decades of UNICEF’s dedicated work in Serbia. It spans from 1947, when the first humanitarian aid shipments were sent to children and families in the former Yugoslavia, up to the present day. “UNICEF has always been a part of the history of this country. Since 1947, we have been helping in various ways – from humanitarian aid to systemic support to the Government in its reform processes. We have always worked together, in partnership, towards the same goal – to reach every child who needs support. Celebrating the 70th anniversary of UNICEF’s work in Serbia is an opportunity to remind ourselves of the obligations we have towards children and to recommit to fulfilling our promises – to work to ensure that every child reaches his or her full potential,” said Michel Saint-Lot, UNICEF Representative in Serbia.

Nis City Mayor Darko Darko Bulatovic and his associates met with RS Minister of Environmental Protection Mr. Goran Trivan and Maryland State Economic and Political Delegation. On this occasion City of Nis team presented several projects in the field of environmental protection – Regional Waste Treatment Plant Keles and Waste Water Treatment Plant. On this occasion Mayor Bulatovic expressed his hopes that after this introductory visit the concrete cooperation between the two countries will be established. Maryland Deputy Secretary of State Luis Borunda said that he was very satisfied with the visit to Serbia. He said that what was happening in the field of economic development here in the city was parallel with the priorities that the State of Maryland set for themselves and these were environmental protection, infrastructure, education and infrastructure that contributes to better economic development. Minister Trivan stressed that Serbia was moving with great steps towards achieving the highest standards of the environment protection. Serbia has the knowledge but we have to make huge investments in new technologies.  He stressed that it was therefore necessary to seek financial assistance in order to invest in environmental protection. He thanked the Maryland Delegation for bringing representatives of 15 companies from the field of environmental protection. He also thanked the State of Maryland for donating a system for efficient, modern and quick analysis of the quality of land.

Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic welcomed the participants of 13^th International Conference at Nis City Hall. TELSIKS is the leading scientific meeting in South-Eastern and Central Europe in the field of telecommunications. On this occasion Mayor Bulatovic emphasized that he was very pleased that this conference has been in existence for 24 years and has been gathering a large number of eminent experts from the country and abroad, which unambiguously spoke about its significance and quality. The chairman of the conference, Prof. Dr. Bratislav Milovanovic, pointed out that the conference could not be as successful as it has been for many years if it has not been supported by the City of Nis. He stressed that TELSIKS is the leading conference and that scientists and experts from the field of telecommunications from more than 30 countries have been involved in its work. Traditionally there are works from countries that have a great scientific reputation in this field, such as the United States, Germany, England, France, Italy and other countries.

City of Nis officials today talked about protection of citizens with Ombudsman of Serbia Zoran Pasalić about the state of human rights and ways to improve the exercise of citizens’ rights in the territory of the City of Nis. According to the Deputy Mayor Milos Bandjur the City of Nis is different from other cities in Serbia because the Mayor, together with his associates, meets the citizens every Monday to discuss their problems.  So far, the Mayor has spoken to more than 1,000 fellow citizens and many of their problems have been solved. Ombudsman Pasalic thanked the city management for the cooperation so far and pointed out that, in many areas, Nis is leading local self-government compared to other cities in Serbia He pointed out that City of Nis was the leader in solving social issues concerning the people with disabilities, elderly citizens, the inclusion of minority groups, and that the problems that citizens most often complain about were property issues and the inefficient administration in solving many issues. Nis City Ombudsman Sanja Stojancic pointed out on this occasion that the citizens complained mainly in regard to the bills for communal services. The Office of Nis City Ombudsman has processed over 620 cases since the beginning of this year.
