2021

• The Mayor of Niš and Ambassador of Hungary to Serbia Attila Pinter attended the ceremonial awarding of decorations to Honorary Consul of Hungary in Serbia Miloje Branković, the Knight’s Cross, the Hungarian Order of Merit, which is awarded by the President of Hungary for his exceptional contribution to strengthening strong ties between Serbia and Hungary. An exhibition of wool sculptures by Arpad Pulai from Vrbas, an artist of Hungarian origin, was opened in the hall of Niš National Theater, where the ceremony was held.

2019

• The delegation from the City of Kecskemét from Hungary led by Deputy Mayor Jozsef Gaal who is also the president of Bacs – Kiskun Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited Nis. During the talks and the presentatios of the two cities, some of the possibilities of cooperation were agreed, both economically, culturally and educationally.

2018

• Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air, from November 15, will fly 3 times a week from Nis Airport to Vienna. In response to increased demand and the desire for more affordable travel options, Wizz Air continues to expand its network of routes from Serbia, offering a total of 20 routes to 8 countries available from two Serbian airports this year, which will further contribute to the increase of incoming and outgoing tourists and improve business ties between countries.

• The City of Nis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, the Hungarian Embassy in Belgrade, and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce – Regional Chamber of Commerce of the Nisava, Pirot and Toplica Administrative Districts, organized the Hungarian-Serbian Water Management Forum in Nis in the presence of representatives of several dozen companies engaged in the construction of hydro-technical facilities, wastewater treatment and water supply.

2016

• Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and members of his cabinet arrived in Nis, where they were received by Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and cabinet members ahead a joint session of governments on November 21^st. Multiple bilateral ministerial meetings are also schedulled for November 21^st in Nis, and the two prime ministers will be attending a Serbian-Hungarian business forum as well.

• The Serbia-Hungary Business Forum in Nis, which has gathered 250 businessmen and 170 companies, has been organized by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and the Hungarian National Trading House. According to data of the Serbian Statistical Office, the total foreign trade between Serbia and Hungary stood at €1.1 billion last year, which is approximately €50 million more in comparison to 2014, i.e. by 4.9% more.  In the first eight months of 2016, the trade between the two countries increased by 5% in relation to the same period last year, which was encouraged by the opening of Hungarian trade representative offices. Total export of goods to Hungary in 2015 stood at € 320.9 million and it accounted for 2.7% of the total export of Serbia.

• Hungary’s OTP Bank has opened a new regional headquarters in Nis. The inauguration ceremony was held in the presence of Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán and Serbian PM Aleksandar Vučić, who both expressed their hope that the Nis investment would be profitable for both parties. According to preliminary reports, the total cost of the new regional headquarters was half a million euros. In his speech, President and CEO of OTP Sándor Csányi emphasized that OTP Bank appeared on the Serbian market ten years ago when it purchased Niska Banka and is planning on acquiring other bank branches with which it can rise to become one of the largest banks in Serbia .OTP is present in nine countries, has over 1300 branches and provides services to 12 million clients.

• In 2016, in cooperation with the City of Nis, Constantine the Great Airport and the Hungarian low-cost company Wizz Air routes were established to Dortmund and to Memmingen, the airport near Munich, Germany and to the Dutch city of Eindhoven.

• The exhibition entitled “A Look at Hungary” was opened in Nis. With a brief overview of basic geographic, demographic and administrative data, the exhibition introduces visitors to important events from history, from the settlement of Hungarians in Europe to the most recent history of today’s country.

2015

• On June25 the flight from Malmö by the Hungarian company Wizz Air, after a year and a half, reopened regular air traffic from the Nis airport. On June 29, the second regular Wizz Air flight was established between Nis and Basel.

2014

• A press conference was held at the Government of the Republic of Serbia announcing the launch of flights by the Hungarian company Wizz Air from Nis Airport. Wizz Air will fly initially to the Swiss city of Basel and later to other European destinations. In the presence of the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Ms. Zorana Mihajlovic and the Mayor of Nis prof. Zoran Perisic, Hungarian Ambassador to Serbia Attila Pinter, the commercial flight agreement was signed by Wizz Air Executive Vice President John Stevenson and Director of Constantine the Great Airport Vladica Djurdjanovic.

2012

• The Office of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Hungary in Serbia together with the Embassy of the Republic of Hungary organized a photo exhibition in Nis dedicated to the famous bridges of Budapest.

2011

• To mark the second anniversary of the Hungarian Honorary Consulate in Nis the exhibition was organized dedicated to the famous composer Franz Liszt and the 200^th anniversary of his birth.

2010

• The delegation of the City of Nis visited the Hungarian city of Pécs, this year’s cultural capital of Europe, at the initiative of the embassy of this country and their honorary consul in Nis, Miloje Brankovic. The cities of Nis and Pécs are partners in the network of European cities of culture AVEC, and the mayors of Nis and Pécs discussed the establishment of cooperation in the field of culture, art and economy. It was agreed that this year the City of Nis will join the cultural promotion program of Pécs by organizing the Days of Pécs in Nis. The Nis delegation had the opportunity to get acquainted with the way in which this year’s European Capital of Culture presented its potential within the European framework and with the capital investments realized from the city’s cultural promotion fund. Participation of Hungarian businessmen in the next Nis Investment Forum was also agreed.

• On the occasion of the anniversary of the opening of the Hungarian Consulate in Nis, the exhibition of a design workshop of architecture students was opened at the European House. The exhibition presents the fantasies that Budapest’s renaissance awakened with students of architecture at the University of Belgrade.

2009

• The Days of Hungarian Culture were organized in Nis with the aim of highlighting the versatility of the language of art that brought together and bridged all differences between peoples. Various programs within the Magyar Festival featured productions that worthily portray Hungarian culture in Serbia. Art lovers had the opportunity to see the play Therapy by Theater from Subotica, and an exhibition of photographs by Karol Csonk from Pécs at the European House. The concert of the Garden Quartet from Subotica was also held in Banovina. At the closing ceremony, at the National Theater in Nis, the National Ensemble Alami Nepi Egites performed the play “The Legend of the Sun”. Thereafter,the jazz concert by Janos Nagi, Freestyle Sextett and Magdolne Ruzsa took place in Banovina.

• Consulate of the Republic of Hungary has been opened in Nis, whose main goal is to strengthen the cultural and sports cooperation of this part of the country and Hungary, as well as to connect the economic entities of this region and Hungary. The citizen of Nis Mr. Miloje Brankovic was appointed Honorary Consul of the Republic of Hungary in Serbia. The opening of the Honorary Consulate of Hungary is of great importance for our city, which intends to strengthen international cooperation with all countries in the region.
