PATRIARCH THEODOROS II OF ALEXANDRIA AND ALL AFRICA – THE GUEST OF THE CITY OF NIS

On the feast-day of the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross, in the presence of His Beatitude Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa and His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, His Grace Arsenije Bishop of Nis celebrated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the church of Sts. Emperor Constantine and Helen. Addressing lots of the faithful, His Beatitude Patriarch Theodoros II, talking about the feast day and the city in which he was, emphasized that the Cross has always been and forever he would remain a symbol of love. – Under this Cross my children: Serbians, Greeks and African people fought for freedom, and hence it will remain a symbol of victory, Patriarch Theodoros said and with special  words thanked the Serbian Patriarch, Bishop Arsenije and the people of Nis for the warm welcome.  Nis City Deputy Mayor Prof. Dr. Milos Bandjur, handed the statue of Emperor Constantine the Great to the Patriarch Theodoros II as a memento of his stay in Nis.




SOLEMN WELCOME OF PATRIARCH THEODOROS OF ALEXANDRIA IN NIS

His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa arrived in Nis in the evening on September 26th.  A doxology in his honour was held in the Cathedral Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles. His Beatitude, accompanied by His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, and the delegation of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Serbian Orthodox Church, was solemnly welcomed by His Grace Bishop Arsenije of Nis with many priests, representatives of the City and the Armed Forces of Serbia, as well as by the faithful people of the imperial Nis and the Diocese of Nis. On this occasion of visit to Nis His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa said that he felt at home in Serbia and addressing the gathered believers, told them to be proud of their country and to love Serbia. “Your homeland is blessed, the land of heroes, those who fought for peace and freedom”.




RECEPTION FOR CHILDREN FROM NIS WHO WON SERBIA IN THE RHYTHM OF EUROPE COMPETITION

The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey organized in the Crystal Hall of the Hayat Hotel in Belgrade the reception for children from Nis who won the Serbia in the Rhythm of Europe competition, as well as for the friends of the Embassy. In this way, the ambassador wanted to reward friends and children who represented Turkey at the competition held in Sombor in June this year. Welcoming the guests, he stressed that he was very pleased that Nis and the children from Nis won this prestigious competition because they represented Turkey. “I have to admit that my initial idea was to gather you in my house, in the residence, and to have party there, to have the children from Nis as my guests, but the rain and this changing weather prevented us from doing so. I am glad we got together. If you are wondering why the children from Nis are with us, I will remind you, and you probably all know that there is a music competition called “Serbia in the Rhythm of Europe” and these children won this competition. Here with us are also presidents and mayors of cities who participated in the competition, “said the Ambassador of Turkey in Belgrade – Tanju Bilgic who presented the children with gifts while main gift, the trip to Turkey, is yet to come. The stars of the evening were the children from Nis who performed their winning song. Mayor of Sombor handed over the transition cup of “Serbia in the Rhythm of Europe” to Nis City Council Member Bojan Krstic who thanked on behalf of the city of Nis for the reception and promised that Nis would be a good host of the next year’s competition.




FUTSAL IS RETURNING TO NIS

September 22nd

Serbian representatives in futsal held the press conference at Nis City Hall together with Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic and announced the match against the selection of the Czech Republic selection for European Championships which will be held in Slovenia. In the first qualifying round Serbia beat Poland with 4:0, while they were defeated by the current champions, the Spanish national team. The mayor wished them a successful stay in Nis, a city where the best futsal is being played. According to the expectations of the home team, the match against the Czech Republic will be exciting and dynamic, but they hope that our players will celebrate the victory in Nis to ensure participation in the European Championship in Ljubljana.




MARKING 100TH ANNIVERSARY SINCE THE DEATH OF GREAT DOCTOR AND HUMANITARIAN ELSIE INGLIS

Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic together with associates met today with the descendants of doctor Elsie Inglis, a great humanitarian and the founder of Scottish Women’s Hospital. The Scottish Women’s Hospitals for Foreign Services (SWH) was founded in 1914. They provided nurses, doctors, ambulance drivers, cooks and orderlies. By the end of World War I 14 medical units had been outfitted and sent to serve in Corsica, France, Malta, Romania, Russia, Salonika and Serbia. Elsie Inglis, herself, went with the teams sent to Serbia where her presence and work in improving hygiene reduced typhus and other epidemics that had been raging there. In April 1916, Elsie Inglis became the first woman to be awarded the Order of the White Eagle (V class) by the Crown Prince Alexander of Serbia at a ceremony in London. She had previously been awarded the Order of Saint Sava (III class).




EXPEDITION TO MOUNTAIN FUJI COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY

Miroslav Dokman, from the Mountaineering Society Preslap, took the flag of the City of Nis

to the world-famous Japanese mountain Fuji and placed it at the top of the peak Kengamine (3776m), the highest point of Fuji and Japan. On returning from Japan, Miroslav Dokman met with Nis City Deputy Mayor Milos Bandjur who expressed his satisfaction that the expedition was successful and the flag of the City of Nis was raised at the highest mountain peak in Japan. Mountain Fuji is a holy mountain for all Japanese, it symbolizes Japan and it represents one of the most remarkable places in the world.

U-NI PRACTICE 2017

Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic and the member of Nis City Council Member for Youth and Sports Branislav Kacar handed over the certificates on complete internships in public companies, city administrations and departments, cultural and sport institutions and city municipalities, to the students of the final year of basic studies and students of the master studies of the University of Nis. U-NI Practice 2017 is conceived as the project to help young people to undergo internship for a month in the public sector after their studies. It provides students the opportunity to gain experience in various areas. Working in public sector is an excellent opportunity to develop professionally and acquire the needed skills. The aim of the practice for students is to acquire practical experience in the work, obtain the certificate of practice issued by the City of Nis and the University of Nis, the possibility of obtaining a recommendation from the institution where the student underwent the internship and the possibility of recognizing the internship as an additional activity adding3 ESPB points by the educational institutions. 34 students applied for 105 positions (or 59 different positions) within 20 institutions in Nis and 31 students started and completed the internship during August 2017. All the interns and mentors have completed the internship evaluation questionnaire in order to define the guidelines for the next year.




DANCE CARAVAN IN NIS FROM SEPTEMBER 22ND

National Foundation 4 Dance and the Belgrade Dance Festival with the support of the Art Mentor Foundation from Lucerne and the Ministry of State Administration and Local Self-Government, have begun the implementation of the Dance Caravan project. The patron of the project is Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic. The goal of the project, which begins on September 22nd in Nis, is to present and promote the art of dance through artistic, creative and educational, and above all, interactive programs in 15 selected cities in Serbia. In the period from September to December, the attention of the widest cultural public in Serbia, especially young people and new audiences, will focus on artistic discipline recognized in the world as one of the most important in the field of creative industries and tourism, as well as benefits it brings to the local population, from work with children and young people, winning new audience, to recreational and dance therapy programs. The idea is that Dance Caravan through a three day programs in each city offer many activities, bring classic ballet and contemporary dance to all interested participants and visitors, while at the same time offering a different cultural content. In Nis and other cities, the audience of all generations will be able to attend performances, follow the film program and presentations, discover art photography from contemporary productions, listen to lectures about the history of the dances, new choreographic settings and alike. The youngest will have an opportunity to engage in practical educational workshops or master classes. Through this intensive program we will see the level of public interest, the possibility of further involving talented children in different programs. Dance Caravan should stimulate talent education and scholarships, involve new audiences in ballet and contemporary dances, and at the same time encourage local organizations to develop a production network and set the foundations of creative industries. All programs are free for the public, and the goal is to have three-day activities in each of the 15 selected cities, gathering at least 3,000 visitors and participants of all generations.




RECEPTION FOR THE PARTICIPANTS OF INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM OF SHOULDER AND ELBOW DISEASE TREATMENT

Nis City Mayor of Darko Bulatovic and the Member of Nis City Council for Primary Health Care Sasa Zivic met today with the renowned medical doctors from China, Japan, South Korea, India and Indonesia who are staying in Nis at the invitation of the Nis Clinical Center on the occasion of the International Symposium of Shoulder and Elbow Disease Treatment that is being held in our city. In addition to these world-renowned doctors, the symposium will also include orthopedic surgeon from Serbia and Macedonia. For the first time in Nis a few days ago a complex operation of the shoulder was performed thanks to the experience transferred from the guests from far countries. Orthopedic surgeon Ivan Micic, who was staying in Seoul for further training, had just the opportunity to further improve his knowledge from this group of physicians. According to Professor In Ho Jeon from South Korea, the goal of their stay in Nis is to discuss with their colleagues about novelties in the field of orthopedics, in particular in the treatment of shoulder and elbow injury.
