The City of Nis marked the 208^th anniversary of the Battle on the Hill of Cegar. At the Skull Tower chapel the clergy of Nis Eparchy served the memorial liturgy for the heroes who died in the battle. The wreaths were laid at the memorial complex above the city by the representatives of the City of Nis, the RS Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, City Municipality Pantelej, Serbian Army, Serbian Police.

The major battle between Serb rebels and Turks took place more than two centuries. The leader of the Serbian army was the Duke Stevan Sindjelic, while the Turkish army was led by Khurshid Pasha. Around 40,000 Turks were stationed in Nis Fortress, while outnumbered Serbian Army had 18,000 fighters. When numerous Turkish troops penetrated into the moat, the Duke Stevan Sindjelic fired a pistol in a warehouse of gunpowder. All the Serbian soldiers and about 12,000 Turks were killed.

Marjan Cakarevic, the poet from Belgrade, is winner of the 46^th prestigious award that bears the name of the prince of poetry Branko Miljkovic. Cakarević was awarded for the book “Tissues” published by Povelja from Kraljevo. The award was presented by Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic. This year’s laureate has so far published five books of poetry. At the awards ceremony at the City Hall the young actor from Nis Milos Unic read the verses by Branko Miljkovic and the winner Cakarevic accompanied by choir singer Evica Radevska and Marija Dinov Vasic at the piano.

“Football Club Radnicki Nis is the city club and therefore we are extremely concerned about the latest developments in connection with obtaining euro license. As the City of Nis administration we have always tried to help Football Club Radnicki to overcome financial problems in the previous period in order to be able to compete in the national football league and to respect all the laws of our country. For this reason we are concerned because of the fact that some football clubs, which are record holders in long-term debt and whose bank accounts have been blocked for years, found virtually “overnight” money and unblocked the accounts. We think that it would not be a good idea to ignore the laws of our Republic, and that it is necessary to respect the rules continuously, not just when it suits individuals. Football is not just a game on the field but and fulfilling legislative obligations.

As the City of Nis we are concerned with the possibility for the club who has been working “illegally” for years to obtain the license. If this really happens, it will definitely reward contempt of the state and its laws. The data at our disposal show that Football Club Radnicki Nis paid around 9 million in taxes to the Republic of Serbia, as well as 30 million dinars for the arrears of the past in the last two months.

City of Nis  will continue to support sports and athletes, and we sincerely hope that the respect for the laws of the country is above all,” as Nis City Council Member Branislav Kacar sis in his press release.

May 24th

Nis City Council Member Branislav Kacar was the host at the reception organized for the members of the Table Tennis Club for people with disabilities Nais who, competing for the Serbian national team, won 6 medals and four cups at the first international tournament in Podgorica. Besides the Serbian national team the teams from Croatia FYROM and Montenegro participated in the tournament. According to table tennis players, the conditions for training in Nis and the past problems have been overcome.

According to Branislav Kacar the conditions were fulfilled for Table Tennis Club for people with disabilities Nais to compete for the funds allocated by the City of Nis. He congratulated the athletes on the excellent results and promised that the city would help to further improve their conditions for training and announced the reconstruction of table tennis home the following year, as well as adopting toilet facilities for the people with disabilities, which currently posed a problem. In addition, through the Sports Association of Nis, the sports equipment will be donated and the City will help with the trip to the competition in Germany this July.

The memorandum of cooperation between the City of Nis and the Balkan Institute and the Archaeological Institute functioning within the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences was signed at Nis City Hall.

Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic, who signed the MoU on the behalf of the City of Nis, emphasized on this occasion the importance of cooperation with institutes of the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences in order to preserve and investigate the cultural and historical heritage of Nis.

The signing of the MoU marks the beginning of the realization of the idea of ​​the establishment of the Foundation “Naisus” which would work to preserve and study the rich archaeological heritage of our city.

“All of us are obliged by the ancient heritage of Nis to treat it with special respect and professional care. We are obliged to revive it somehow, through scientific papers that are missing but also to include it in economic and tourism development of  Nis, ” as it was said during the signing of the Memorandum.

At the Job Fair, which was held at the Officers’ Mess Building, Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovic and the Director of the Nis branch of the National Employment Service Boban Matic signed the agreement on joint implementation of active employment policy. 54 million dinars will be allocated for the realization of this programme. The City of Nis will participate with 30 million dinars.

According to Mayor Bulatovic measures include public works program, the employment of those categories of the unemployed with greater difficulties in finding job, self-employment and professional training. The Director of the Nis branch of the National Employment Service Boban Matić said that the National Employment Service had a long tradition of organizing job fairs and this was the 30^th one. He stressed that, through fairs, annually in Serbia, thousands of people are employed. This year the Job Fair in Nis was attended by about 30 successful companies in the city that offered nearly 400 vacancies.

This day has been marked since 1990, when homosexuality was expelled from the list of diseases.

27 years later, the members of the LGBT population continue to have problems with the exercise of fundamental human rights, such as those to health care and freedom of expression.

Statistics show that they are often victims of their opponents and those who react aggressively to diversity.

NGO representatives remind that discrimination and physical violence are the key issues that LGBT people are exposed to.

On the occasion of this date the discussion panel was held and Deputy Mayor Prof. Dr. Nebojsa Randjelovic took part on the behalf of the City of Nis.

Earlier this year the City of Nis signed the MoU with relevant institutions on cooperation within local network for the prevention of discrimination against LGBT people.

May 16^th

In the period from June 9^th to June 17^th, Nis will be the center of chess since European Amateur Chess Championship will be held in our city.

The Championship will be held at the Hotel Tami Congress Hall and the total prize fund of the tournament in Nis is 3,000 euros.

Besides this championship, the tournament Nis Open will be held at the Hotel Zeleni Vir from June 27^th to July 5^th.

Branislav Kacar, the member of Nis City Council, expressed, at the press conference held at Nis City Hall, his satisfaction with the fact that Nis will be the city of chess in the forthcoming months. Recently, the reception was organized at Nis City Hall for the young and successful chess players from Nis.

May 12^th

The Minister without portfolio in the Government of Serbia Milan Krkobabic said at a meeting at City Hall with representatives of the City of Nis, of the surrounding municipalities and cooperatives that Serbian villages should not remain empty, and that the Government of Serbia, at the proposal of Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, adopted the decision on the establishment of new and revitalisation of existing agriculture cooperatives. Minister Krkobabic said that the existing and newly established cooperatives would get 12.5 and 6.2 million dinars. He explained that the money could be used for planting, enlarging the flock, and the purchase of machinery; however it could not be used to cover the financial debts. The aim for the next three years, starting from this one, to form 500 cooperatives in 500 large villages which will enable fruit growers, truck farmers, livestock breeders, easier access to markets.

According to Deputy Mayor Milos Bandjur Serbian government defined the program and the public call was to come next and the local government would provide all necessary support for strengthening the cooperatives in this part of our country. The goal, as it was said at the meeting that brought together a large number of people, to revive the Serbian village and to keep young people in the countryside to live and work.

Nis City Mayor Darko Bulatovićc and CEO of Ayala-led Integrated Micro-Electronics Incorporated (IMI) Eric de Candido signed the contract on alienation of land property of five hectares for development on the site known as Lozni Kalem. Thus the realization of investment project of building the factory in our city started.
According to Mayor Bulatovic the investor bought the land through the public auction at the market price of 236 451 008,00 dinars and with the help of the Serbian government and the City of Nis will start manufacturing plant and employ 1,250 workers. This factory will employ a large number of university graduates, mainly engineers. The mayor said on this occasion that the City of Nis and the Faculty of Electronic Engineering would provide all necessary support to the investor so that this investment project would be realized in accordance with the plans and the schedule that was previously agreed with the company. The Director of IMI Eric de Candido announced the ground breaking ceremony during this summer. Memorandum of Understanding with the Republic of Serbia and City of Nis was signed on August 19^th 2016. The total value of the investment in fixed assets for the period from 2016 to 2026 is 32 million euros.
